Offices are becoming more sophisticated in their direct deals as well as fund investments. They’re hiring professionals with deep deal-expertise and oftentimes competing with more institutional investors like venture capital and private equity. Our panel of Family Office investors will discuss deal sourcing, sector interests, and finding the right partners and opportunities for maximum dealmaking.
09:35 – 09:45 AMA New Standard of Care in the Deadly Disease of Colorectal Cancer
Jonathan P. Northrup, Co-Founder & CEO, Stingray Therapeutics
If you are diagnosed with metastatic colorectal cancer, you odds are 87% dead in 5 years from this disease. We are starting a phase 1-2 clinical trial to show that these odds can dramatically be improved with a new regimen in immune oncology utilizing our new drug. Enthusiasm for this trial is amazing, and we have received $14M non-dilutive to support it. We are looking for investors touched by colorectal cancer to help us support this effort to dramatically change the standard of care in colorectal cancer.

09:45 – 09:55 AMThe Big Opportunity in Small Businesses
Max Anderson, Managing Partner, Saturn Five
The average private equity deal in 2023 was priced at an 11x multiple of EBITDA. But smaller private companies regularly trade at less than half that price, offering unusually high yields. Family office and institutional investors have found it difficult to get access to these deals and put money to work. But a new generation of managers is creating exciting opportunities to invest in the best of these small companies and enjoy both capital appreciation and regular cash distributions.

09:55 – 10:00 AMUnearthing Treasure: The Journey to a Billion-Dollar Development
Roee Ben-Zur, Chief Operating Officer, Habacoa Holdings, Ltd.
The Ben-Zur family is transforming an almost forgotten plot of land into the Bahamas most luxurious residential community and North America’s Largest superyacht Marina. Roee Ben-Zur, Habacoa’s COO, will discuss the personal story behind the development. Habacoa, located at the southern tip of the Island of Abaco, is a superyacht-centric destination resort, offering exceptional experiences, ultra-luxury residencies and world-class services. Having already created over $300m in value, we are looking for visionary partners to join us on the journey to build this spectacularly intimate community.

10:00 – 10:10 AMHydrogen for the ‘Clean Energy’ Economy
Bruce Boisture, Co-Founder & President, ZoneFlow Reactor Technologies, LLC
Hydrogen, a versatile, clean-burning energy source, will play a major role in the “clean energy” economy. The most abundant, least expensive source of hydrogen is natural gas, but conventional conversion approaches currently produce CO2 emissions that are almost 1% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Radically innovative ZoneFlow technologies dramatically improve the efficiency of the conversion process and virtually eliminate its CO2 emissions; we are looking for additional investment to support the current commercial introduction of these technologies.

Buyout funds have existed for many decades with little innovation, primarily focusing on financial engineering over relatively short holding periods to maximize IRR. Holding companies, on the other hand, provide longer-term time horizons, but the most well-known of them (Berkshire Hathaway, Interactive Corp, etc.) did not start out as HoldCos at all. Investing in a new holding company offers unique advantages, especially to family offices with roots in operating companies or that value compounding growth over longer time horizons.
