John Roby is the Managing Partner of Mountainside Energy Partners, a private oil and gas investment manager he launched in May 2025. Mountainside manages multiple investment vehicles focused on acquiring and operating oil and gas assets, with current holdings in Western Oklahoma, the Texas Panhandle, and South Texas.

Prior to forming Mountainside, John served as CEO of CPX Energy, a family office–backed operating company focused in the Permian Basin. He was also a founding member of private equity–backed companies Teal Natural Resources, Verde Royalty Partners, and Titanium Exploration Partners, and previously worked as an investment professional at Congruent Investment Partners and Highland Capital Management.

John began his career at Occidental Petroleum, where he held multiple engineering roles focused on the Wilmington Field in Long Beach, California.

He currently serves as an Advisory Member of Origin Minerals, LLC, a metals mining start-up, and as Treasurer of the Dallas Producers Club. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the non-profit ChandlerSpeaks and has received multiple industry recognitions, including Oil & Gas Investor’s Forty Under 40 and EY Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist, Southwest Region.

John holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, with honors, from the University of Texas, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
