Marcus X Russell is a dedicated community activist, nonprofit leader, and co-founder of Commissary Is Very Necessary Inc., a charity organization that provides vital services to underserved communities. His journey into activism began in 2019 when he served as a campaign manager for Davante P. Peters’ Dallas City Council District 3 race. Although the campaign was unsuccessful, Marcus remained committed to uplifting his community, leading to the formation of Community Engagement Specialist (CES), a grassroots initiative focused on community safety, food programs, and health outreach.

Under Marcus’s leadership, Commissary Is Very Necessary Inc. has expanded its impact, offering health fairs, financial literacy workshops, and food programs that serve communities in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and Baltimore. His work has been especially critical during the pandemic, addressing food insecurity and public health disparities in hard-to-reach neighborhoods. Marcus is also the driving force behind the Nature Smart Learning Academy at Advanced Preparatory International High School, preparing students for careers in sustainability, agriculture, and environmental justice.

Despite facing significant challenges, including lack of city support and personal threats, Marcus has remained resilient, earning recognition for his relentless advocacy. His network of support includes legal aid organizations, grassroots movements, and philanthropic partners who have helped him expand his mission.

With a vision that extends beyond nonprofit work, Marcus has recently led his organization into a for-profit/nonprofit hybrid model, aiming to drive sustainable growth for community-focused businesses. His unwavering dedication to justice, education, and empowerment continues to inspire change and transform lives across multiple cities.
